cajasWith Cajas National Park about 20 miles out of the city, and the Inca ruins of Ingapirca a good day trip with an early start, there’s plenty to see should you arrive mid-week when Cuenca is at its least lively. Thursday is the big day as far as the markets go and since they are aimed at locals not tourists, this can be a relatively stress-free, people-watching exercise with some great photo opportunities and chance to pick up some excellent fresh produce. From Thursday, right through the weekend, Cuenca has a great relaxed party atmosphere and some of the hostels in town are the best places to start your night out as a few have their own cafe bars open to the public and travellers alike.
